clarification on upgrading
  • michaelmichael June 2010

    Hi all!
I am in the process of upgrading SI from 2009.1 to 2010.1, I have read the upgrade instructions on SI's website, but I have been using phpmyadmin to export the database tables, instead of SI's "database backup" option.

So before I go ahead I just wanted to check, is this right? I unzip the new SI version into the webserver directory, copy the config.ini from the old version (checking the database connection details are correct)

then from within phpmyadmin import the old tables into a new "simple_invoices" database, then simply browse to http:/localhost/simpleinvoices
and SI will detect the old config.ini and automagically apply these patches to the mysql database and tables?

    many thanks!

    hey michael

1 backup using phpmyadmin your existing database
2 unzip new simple invoices into a new folder
3 edit config/config.ini in new folder - copy over the db and any other changed settings from the previous installs config.ini file
4 open new simple invoices in your web browser
5 follow the steps to upgrade your existing database
    6 all done

let us know how you go

    cheers

    Hi Justin,
thanks for the reply, I followed the steps you described, once I opened simple invoices in the web browser it just went straight to the main invoices page,as per its normal operation, it seems fine.
however, there was no prompt to upgrade the existing database, is this right?

    thanks

ok I just reread, the upgrade instructions at simple invoices.org!
so if there are no patches to be applied SI "just works" as usual.

I take it then, when you browse to SI and index.php is run, the script will check the version of mysql database, and ,depending on what version the database returns, the script will (or wont) enter "upgrade" mode?

    either way, awesome! :D

    hey michael

yep - if there are no sql/database patches to be applied by Simple Invoices it will just work
    - if there are sql/database patches to be applied Simple Invoices will tell you and will enter upgrade mode

    cheers
